At CERN – we often think about the fundamental things.
We are fascinated by our universe – and why it is so big and empty.
How it got created out of the big bang – that was so tiny but yet so rich on energy.
Why it expanded, – cooled down – and created all the particles we are made of.
Which mechanisms led to the formation of our solar system – with the sun as our source of energy.
What kind of laws – allowed the appearance of our planet.
And that it is revolving around our sun – just in the right distance to allow life.
Sometimes – we allow ourselves to leave the path of basic research – and investigate – for example – how clouds are formed.
Or how we can improve with our methods the diagnostics and treatments of illnesses.
Often – the general public asks: how does this affect my daily life?
Many of our answers – you all well know: The World Wide Web …
… Touchscreens …
… and improved solar collectors.
So we still ask ourselves: – Can we do more? –
Can we use our science expertise in humanitarian fields?
Can we foster innovation – by bringing together interdisciplinary teams from different organizations?
To work on projects with social impact – by creating proof of concept prototypes?
With the technology we have here at CERN?
Our goal is to combine creative minds from CERN and non-profit organisations in interdisciplinary teams – to work on humanitarian technology related benefits to society.
In our hackathons we want to unite innovators …
… with our social and humanitarian projects we aim to impact the future …
… and we start – to act today.
And all this … Is THE Port!
